Behind the Name: Colleen Regina Photography

I’d love to share with you the special meaning behind choosing the name of my photography business, and Mother’s Day seemed like an appropriate day to do so! As I mentioned in the “About” section of my website, it is my first and middle names. But besides the more obvious connection, I’d love to share with you why I love my name and, more importantly, why I love sharing it with my photography business.

I am the namesake of my grandma Colleen and great-grandma Regina. My grandma Colleen is my mom’s mother, and Regina is Colleen’s mother. So, put another way, my name is inherited from the mothers of my mom’s line. These women were and are important to my mom (she gave my sister a middle name of my other great-grandma, Marie). It calls to mind the phrase, “Strong women raise strong women.” My mom actually gave me the photo of us below in a frame that had this quote on it. It sits in my bedroom on my dresser, to remind me of some of my favorite people in the world. The women in my life mean so much to me: my mom, my grandma, my sister, my best friend, my daughters, etc. As a luxury motherhood photographer, I could not imagine a more perfect way to show my dedication to celebrating motherhood and family bond as well as to honor some of the generational matriarchs of my family.

Another reason I love the names are for their individual meanings. Both are Irish in origin (which is part of my heritage). Colleen means “girl” or “woman”, and Regina means “queen”. I love this for my business because as a motherhood photographer, I want to do my part in helping every mama celebrate her inner queen. Keeping your household running smoothly, raising and guiding your children, ruling your personal life… Being a wife and mama and not losing yourself to it is hard work and it deserves some celebrating! As a mama, when you come to a session you will receive the pampering you deserve as the queen of your family.

A personal reason I love the name Regina is that in Latin, Jesus’s mother Mary is referred to sometimes as “Regina Coeli”, Queen of Heaven. As a reflection, the name Regina reminds me to continually be looking to her for inspiration as a mom, a wife, and to strive to live a saintly life like hers.

Using my name for my business shows just how close to my heart this endeavor is. I will put my all into making sure you and your family looks and feels great at your session. Your images will be gorgeous, and the products you will bring home will be high quality to last you generations. Photography and motherhood are my passions and my purpose, and I am so lucky to get to share it with you.

Because the women in my life have been so impactful and important to me, because my photography focuses on celebrating motherhood and family bond, and because I put my heart and soul into it for my clients, I love sharing my name with my photography business. On this Mother’s Day and every day, it’s important to me that every mama be reminded of the queen she is.
